MARÍA ECHEVERRI

Maria Echeverri is an artist and a jewelry designer from Honduras who focuses her work on the experimentation of metals and different materials, where the idea is to turn a piece into “Wearable Art” as a work of art for the body.
“Since I was little I loved to create, draw, paint – everything that had to do with art, but I decided to design jewelry when I visited MET (NY) and entered the area of Egypt. I fell in love with their culture, their passion for jewelry and meaning – to the point where I started to investigate more in depth about goldsmithing, design and art. They captivated me without a doubt.
“My first steps began by studying marketing and international business where I began to create pieces with bead like bijou. At the end of my career, I went almost a year to study English and secretly I took goldsmith courses. More convinced than ever when I returned to Honduras, with determination I decided to go to Buenos Aires, Argentina to study jewellery design, where I fell in love with contemporary jewelry (each piece has a reason to be under a concept and a design). It was there that I began to exhibit internationally.
“The creative process is the most intense stage for me. It all starts with an idea where it is a bit frustrating but the main thing is to believe in it and in yourself. I continually work with the experimentation of metals until the creation of the piece, where I work with my hands, from the metal alloy to the polishing. And there comes the exciting moment, when you and the rest of the world observe the final piece.
“My collection ‘Marks of Life’ is inspired by the different paths and decisions we make in the course of our life, and how these grant us different marks and scratches at each stage that we are going through, but this does not mean that we lose our own beauty and essence.
“I hope, as an artist and as a person, to continue giving the best of me in each piece, designing and creating with love and passion. I also wish to achieve, in my viewers, the clear realization that the jewels are pieces of art beyond an object.”
