YOSEF REZNIKOV | RESH
UNITED BY THE POWER OF ART
An example of the fact that miracles do happen is the biography of Yosef Reznikov. A civil engineer by education, he worked in construction and then became engaged in designing buildings and structures. Having defended his dissertation, as a professor, he teaches at the construction and architectural faculties of the Polytechnic Institute in the city of Tashkent.
In 1991 Reznikov emigrated to Israel.
Age, lack of connections, problems with the language, everyday difficulties, and the free time that has appeared push him to paint. Portraits and Israeli landscapes’ paintings helped him overcome the emerging depression.
At a collective exhibition of artists in the city hall of Nazareth-Illit, he met another impressive exhibitor, Oleg Shkred. It turns out that Oleg graduated from the same faculty as Yosef. It just happened a few years later. In Tashkent, where they lived, they did not know each other. Oleg came to Israel in 1995.
They decide to work together to overcome the financial difficulties that have arisen. So, for example, they started designing villas and private houses.
They received a request from the mayor’s office to design the old retaining wall located in the city center. The wall was divided by buttresses into five parts. This dictated a compositional solution. From sand and cement, they created five relief paintings dedicated to the history of the Jewish people. The total area of the panel is more than 100 square meters.
Their second commissioning work was to decorate the city’s central synagogue. This is a relatively large building. They made drawings on the walls, relief panels, carvings on the prepared surface, stained-glass windows, and much more. After all these works, the synagogue entered the respectable list of ‘top ten synagogues in Israel.’
Seeing the originality of their work, the mayor’s office allowed them to use a public bomb shelter as a studio, with one condition that when Israel is being shelled, the bomb shelter must be open for the public. So repeatedly, they had to be on duty.
In this bomb shelter – studio, they created several completely new directions in painting.
Sacrificing their ego, they decided to sign their works as RESH (RESH) – an abbreviation of the initial letters of two surnames.
In total, the duo of artists RESH created more than 3,000 artworks. They called one of their developments KFAR – Cubo-futuristic abstract realism. Most of their paintings are done in this style. Viewers note that all their artworks are unexpected and unpredictable.
The paintings written jointly were exhibited in Israel, the USA, Russia, Spain, and Germany.
To date, collectors from all over the globe purchase RESH’s works of art. As a result, they have become known for their unique style and artistic quality.
In February-March 2008, they successfully exhibited at the Artexpo NY, presenting reproductions of paintings. RESH was included in a collection “20 Artists of the World” (No. 4, pp. 42-43), published by the Museum of American Art and the European Art Library.
In 2007, during the city of Nazaret Illit’s 50th-anniversary celebration, their paintings were presented to the Prime Minister and President of Israel. In May 2009, during the visit of Pope Benedict XVI in Israel, Their work was presented through an exhibition, a composition by Nazareth artists from the NES. This painting is now located in the Vatican art collection.
In August 2021, they donated their painting to the Israeli new president Yitzhak Herzog, and it’s now being presented in his private art collection. At the moment, they are working on creating new interior compositions.
ABSTRACTION IS MUSIC FROZEN IN COLORS
“To talk about the paintings, we must first determine what we see. And here, for the critic and any person considering abstract painting, the first difficulty arises: we cannot always say what is shown in the picture; everything is too abstract. If in the intricacies of lines and shapes, it is possible to see the outlines of an object or figure or at least a hint of something specific. But the actual abstraction just consists in the fact that it is impossible to find a particular subject from which the artist abstracted. So there are paintings with elements of conception; they are partially or half abstract. There is an abstract subject when an image of a creature suddenly arises from a combination of spots and geometric shapes. While there are entirely abstract paintings in which there is nothing like reality.”

ABSTRACT ART IN INTERIOR SPACE
“Abstract art can be considered the beginning of modern energy painting. Abstraction does not carry a specific meaning – it is sensations, emotions, and feelings. Such painting, unlike realism, affects the emotional and energetic state of a person instantly.
The human brain has nothing to cling to when you look at an abstract picture. There are no houses, trees, a river, or people in the picture. You look – and nothing is clear! You just like the color combination or composition. Pictures carry their energy and influence a person’s general condition, health, and mood. An artist with this knowledge can heal with his creativity, give people joy, make the best changes in human life.
The artist conveys a particular state with the help of paints, and on the canvas, we see combinations of colors at first glance. And the first look will be the truest – remember your first emotion from viewing the picture! YOUR picture will seem to reach out to you; you will want to look at it and look at it. By hanging it in your home, you will decorate the interior and make the most profitable investment – investing in yourself!”
