BADRIA SHAMSI | What do your eyes reveal?
“These works of art express how I interpret and feel emotions around me.
It’s an expression of how I understand my surrounding. I intend to portray the complexity of feelings from one person to another. The inspiration for this series developed from the following quote by Eleanor Roosevelt:
“Great minds discuss ideas, average minds discuss events, small minds discuss people”
Badria Shamsi (b. 1971) is an expressionist artist who lives and works in Dubai, UAE. Shamsi is a self-taught artist, passionate about learning new techniques and developing her artistic style. Her works combine wet and dry mixed-media techniques. You will find a combination of spaces, emotions, movement, and lines in her paintings.
Badria expresses her ideas without the limits of classical painting because she always sees art as beauty in its essential and simplest forms.
“The subject of my paintings is eyes, as I feel eyes are the true mirror of the soul; furthermore, the following quote explains why drawing eyes is more than enough to express different emotions:
“When a woman is talking to you, listen to what she says with her eyes.” -Victor Hugo
