BRI WENKE | ‘one becomes another’
Bri Wenke is a painter based in Charleston, SC.
She creates expressive and evocative work through bold and sculptural paint application, rich to the touch.
A developing fascination with the antiquity and complexity of the human story began to take shape after a decade of world travel, and in 2014 she moved from Manhattan to Charleston to pursue life as a full-time painter.
Her work is collected internationally and was most recently featured in Art Reveal Magazine. Bri is currently exhibiting at the Grand Bohemian Gallery in Charleston.
Layers reveal so much more than what’s on the surface, and in our modern everyday life, the surface is often deliberately crafted with painful precision to appear flawless. But the story is lost; one becomes another face in the crowd, just an ‘other.’ This categorization of ‘otherness’ makes it frighteningly simple for us to overlook each other, cast judgment, make conclusions, move on, and leave ourselves a bit more alone. A high-functioning introvert through and through, I’m bored to death of pleasantries and small talk. I’m interested in where your facade is cracking. I want to know what you’re made of.
