CHAD COOMBS | 2 SERIES
Figurative Figures
With a strong aversion to eye contact, Coombs uses manipulated glass between the camera and his subject matter. Dissociating visually strengthens the emotional connection for Coombs, who then captures difficult moments for him to define in words.
Moments of arousal, passion, love, and, most difficult of all, connectivity. Coombs attempts to project himself into the figure that is captured to connect better, using photography as his method of communicating the emotions he feels and captures within these frames.

INSTRUMENTAL DOCUMENTATION

The inspiration for the” Instrumental Documentation” series comes from the struggles Coombs has due to his Autism and the inability to recognize emotions and their subtleties and textures on account of having Alexithymia.
As a result of this condition, Coombs is hypersensitive to stimuli and information. Therefore, this series visually embodies aspects of what it is like for the artist to walk through public streets mentally.
