CIANE XAVIER | PROCESSES OF IDENTITY
Finalist at the International Competition, a collaboration of the Florence Biennale, Art Market Magazine, and Lens Magazine.
“I am a sculptor and multimedia artist born in Brazil, and in the past several years based in the Philippines, where I first began producing my artwork. I use 3D printing, resin, fiberglass, wood, and all sorts of materials to encapsulate the idea of identity loss and reconstruction of myself in my figure forms; my goal with my art is to question the viewer.” – Ciane Xavier
Originally from a small town in the countryside of South Brazil, Ciane Xavier’s first passion was to explore the immense diversity of cultures around the world during her career as a fashion model.
Since her teens, Ciane has lived in more than fourteen different countries, which has shaped much of what she today calls a process of identity loss and reconstruction of oneself, which is strongly reflected in her work.
Ciane’s first encounter with her inner artist started in the Philippines while painting the walls of her new apartment. As she describes, “My Journey started when I was doodling the walls of my living room; I drew freely without any restrains, daydreaming about my life experiences and materializing personal emotions.
Finally, I realized that my soul be the real artist and my hands were the bridge between two different worlds”.
This was a turning point in her life when she decided to follow a childhood passion for drawing and to emerge herself into art.
Since then, she has taught herself to paint and sculpt, learn about different materials, and integrate them into her work. Through Pop Culture Ciane explores the boundaries of today’s society, touching upon globalization and the distractions of the millennial Era. The Characters serve as an exploration of the human soul, symbolizing power, fragility, vulnerability, and eternity but retaining a sense of vagueness to encourage dialogue and question the viewer.
