DAPHNE HOREV | Human Prism
” I am a digital painter. I was born, raised, and got my art degrees in Israel.
For me, Engaging with art is like diving into a microcosmos of self and beyond. To my most profound feeling, the world surrounding us, flowing through the human prism, pours into a deep and vast reservoir of our subconscious, emotions, and souls, giving us its unique human interpretation. In the interface zone between the natural world of ‘things in themselves and the known interpretive world, in an alchemical-magical-synergistic process, art happens.
Most of my artworks and my artistic style can be defined as minimalistic. I believe that minimalism contains an enormous power to condense the subject matter while leaving a wide range for personal interpretation. I refer to some of my works as ‘Haiku poems’ because of their minimalism as well as their enigmatic character.
Flying cranes that embody vulnerability and spiritual power to make a leap of faith into the unknown often pass through my works. Primordial conch shells, guarding in their womb the secrets of eons, ripple reflections in which reality becomes an ever-changing impressionist vibration, heroes form mythological stories in which I find deep existential truths, making an homage and personal interpretation of masterpieces, are all main themes in my art.
I often use gold color and gold leaves in my compositions to grant their objects an aura of secular sanctity. It detaches the subject matter from the realistic context and elevates it to a metaphoric level.
Printing on different materials produces different appearances with varied qualities. In addition to traditional canvas printing, my limited edition works are printed with high-quality archival ink on silver metallic foil, metallic rag, glass, plexiglass, aluminum, wood, and more, in varied sizes.” – Daphne Horev
” I have been painting for many years. In recent years I have been using digital tools in my art. While painting, I set myself free from the grasp of everyday perception of reality. To my deep feeling, the world surrounding us flows through a human prism, pours into a deep and vast pool of our subconsciousness, emotions, and souls, and gives us its humanly unique interpretation. I want to grant a halo of secular holiness to human wonders, doubts, and yearnings embodied in simple things like a flight of cranes or a shell lying on the sand after sunset.”
