Eliane Douglas | CONTEMPORARY WALL TAPESTRIES
Eliane Douglas, born in 1971, is a self-taught artist who has delved into various artistic pursuits, all centered around her love for people and portraiture. Her latest project, known as ‘Tapis Folie,’ can be best described as a contemporary take on wall tapestries. It features original photos from bygone eras, printed on unique fabrics and adorned with hand-painted details.
Each collection has its own narrative, making every Tapis a one-of-a-kind piece of art. The unexpected blend of different mediums, high-quality materials, and careful craftsmanship creates a sense of awe and inspiration.
Eliane is constantly seeking ways to add beauty to people’s lives. She works as an in-house artist at several children’s hospitals, designing art projects for and with seriously ill children. Witnessing the joy and inspiration that these children find in art has deeply influenced her own creative work.
In her view, being moved by art, in any form, is pure magic; it comforts, enchants, and connects people. Throughout the creative process, she often feels an exhilarating rush akin to “Folie,” the French word for madness, which she references in her Tapis. With this art form, she brings joy not only to her audience but also to herself.
