FREDDIE QUINTANA | Heal our hearts, excite our senses and inspire new ideas.
“My primary goal when creating my abstracts is to breathe life into what I do. One of my practices is ensuring I don’t stay locked up in the studio for too long. Instead, I get out and explore the world and other forms of art for inspiration.”
Hi, my name is Freddie Quintana. I am a German-American, living near Würzburg, Germany, since 1993. I have had a strong passion for art in all its different ways since I was 18. I studied Advertising Design at the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
There I learned how to use and create Graphic Design for all platforms. For the last couple of years, I have been thinking about turning my passion for painting into a full-time job, and at the end of 2015, I finally did. Since then, I have worked as a freelance artist.
What I do
I am specialized in abstract and mixed media works of art. My paintings feature versatile coloring and exciting textures. I get my inspiration from my three favorite artists: Jackson Pollock, Friedensreich Hundertwasser, and Gerhard Richter.
I am an experimental artist because I work with many different materials and like to experiment with paint and use things other artists don’t use… trying to make them one of a kind. I paint with acrylic paints and use water-based paint, so I can easily mix the colors.
I usually don’t work with a paintbrush; I primarily work with a large spatula and a regular spatula pounding the paint onto the canvas. I also use a drip paint technic to give it a hidden effect.
To give my paintings an old reclaimed wood look, I use chalky paints to create the shabby chic effect; I just love things that look old and vintage. I also like to experiment with different materials; for example, I used crinkled cardboard and added paint to it to create a 3D effect for the painting. I also like working with various media, such as duct tape, wallpaper, deco patch paper, and cut-out paper which can be employed in different ways. With all these techniques, I have created pieces of art that are open for interpretation. I feel that a painting should be a canvas for your imagination so that you can create a story of your own.
My primary goal when creating my abstracts is to breathe life into what I do. One of my practices is ensuring I don’t stay locked up in the studio for too long. Instead, I get out and explore the world and other forms of art for inspiration. I think this balance helps to keep my creative energy fresh and exciting. Art can help us grow, heal our hearts, excite our senses and inspire new ideas. It’s one of the most valuable gifts to society.
