KARLI HENNEMAN | Minimalist Architectural Dance
“My serene exploration of light and shadow investigates the ambiguous markings of urban spaces.
This hard-edge painting technique offers a meditative, perceptual experience through the intricate interplay of simple geometric forms.”
Karli Henneman is a Los Angeles-based painter. She began her Fine Art education at Parsons (The New School for Design) in Paris and transferred her studies to New York City. After receiving her BFA from Parsons (NYC), she continued her graduate studies at NYU in Art Therapy.
In an ode to mid-century-modern design, Henneman’s recent subject matter explores simple forms in balanced abstract compositions. Her work is a fresh approach to geometric abstraction inspired by color palettes from the late 1960s.
Her minimalist vocabulary of shapes and subdue palettes are composed atop a thick textured background adding a sculptural effect to the two-dimensional works.
“Painting is a creative exercise that allows me to be fully present. It’s an emotional journey of problem-solving and mindfulness, coinciding in harmony. It imbues a sense of tranquility and creative growth. I create art that I want to live with.”

Her layered painting technique and dynamic compositions offer a meditative perceptual experience as the eye moves. Shadow and light dance through a precise interplay of ambiguous forms to create a symbiotic resolve on a textured surface. Using a muted color palette grounded by contrasting shapes, she creates works of both equal opposition and volume.
Karli has exhibited her work in several solo and group shows in Los Angeles and New York City, and her work has been featured in national and international art publications.

“While living in New York City, I created colorful, labor-intensive mixed media pieces (composed of paper collages, beads, and acrylic paint). After over 10 years in New York, I moved to Los Angeles, and my artwork dramatically shifted. Inspired by Southern California’s light, I began painting minimalist architectural details.“
