In this project, The “Screens” series of paintings, created between 2011 and 2020, the images and particles of images are floating and appearing on the picture’s surface without any cataloging system or order.
Traces and remnants of images taken from books, magazines, and several texts. All these are weaved into one tight enigmatic surface.
Inside this weaved surface, old traces of particles and remnants from the popular culture are featured, figures from advertisements, movie actresses, popular icons, and images representing the culture of consumption and the consumerist society.
Those visual anecdotes appear for a moment, then vanish in a glance. As if it was a camera flash or the lightning light. It creates a sense of movement in the picture and a sort of unstable surface. The images and small particles are reflexive and give a sense of musical feeling, like chords and harmonized notes combined in a system of ladders and modules.
A coherent and tight surface is being created in front of the viewer, making him confronted with an almost ideal and harmonious world, although very translucent and fragile.
My paintings reveal an attempt to map simultaneous views as if seen through thousands of mirrors- a checkered eye view. The color palette in these artworks creates a psychologically balanced equilibrium & space. I am trying to reflect this scenery which is sometimes harmonious, integral, sometimes unstable, and chiastic.
As Dr. Salvatore Russo, an art critic and a curator described:
“The geometry of the sign is the great protagonist of Orna L.Brock’s painting.
First, the sign is transported in a hypothetical Cartesian axis and divided into sections. Then, through a unique perspective, the sign is conveyed in optical channels that divide it into cells. The result is a composition of great interest.”
