water-ish
A Natural Creative Process
“I’ve never asked myself this typical question,
“Are you an artist?”. Because I think we are all artists, including all the animals and the little insects in nature. Just being itself means something, and that’s what I call its art.” -water-ish
I was born and raised in Miyazaki, Japan. When I was 17, right after graduating high school, I dragged my suitcase and moved to Santa Barbara, California.
I got an A.A. degree in Studio-Art, SBCC, then moved to Carlsbad, San Diego, to continue my studies at the Gemological Institute of America. I graduated in Jewelry Design and Gemology with two diplomas in these fields.
Later, I returned to Japan and started working as a jewelry adviser at a Jewelry store in Kobe, and very fast, I was promoted and worked as the store manager and regional sales manager, Followed by moving to LA to work as a Jewelry Category Developer at their HQs. Then, as soon as the company went bankrupt, I returned to Japan and started working as a visual merchandiser for some luxury brands.

I’ve never asked myself this typical question, “Are you an artist?”. Because I think we are all artists, including all the animals and the little insects in nature. Just being itself means something, and that’s what I call its art. Are you a bad artist if you’re not famous or disliked by everybody? Nope.
In my opinion, When all is said and done, you only know what’s good and bad for you. We all want to be understood and misunderstood. It’s just a matter of ego, I think.

I can live this life as long as I’m doing my art like I inhale and exhale. If I’m not doing my art, there is no point in why I’m here spending my life making artwork. My artworks represent the water-ish inside myself. The creation comes naturally without preparations, and I can’t know from ahead what the blank canvas will bring. Moreover, I don’t remember what I have drawn in the past. As I see my previous artworks, I know it’s done by water-ish. It’s funny.

I’m just letting myself paint because my artwork gives me something I need. So when you are not feeling anything because you are having a hard time in your life, listen to music, be in nature and maybe see some of the funny faces I paint. You may find your heart inside, and you will be okay. Because there is art, we can feel love.
