The Phenomenal Spectrum of Yanping Lu
Yanping Lu creates artworks that skillfully merge traditional painting with contemporary fabric appliqué techniques, creating rich forms of artistic expression. These pieces utilize relief and semi-relief techniques, blending figurative and geometric abstract elements, thereby adding depth and texture.
“My name is Yanping Lu, and I am a highly skilled Professional Artist based in Ohio. With a diverse skill set, I excel not only in traditional art but also in digital art, graphic design, and textile and fashion design. I obtained my Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree from the prestigious Hubei Institute of Fine Arts in China in 1987. I later furthered my education by earning a Master of Educational Informatics (MEI) from Tohoku University in Japan in 2005.

Early Career and Academic Pursuits:
During the early years of my career, I worked as a commercial art designer at the China Silk Import and Export Corporation for eight years. Subsequently, I pursued further education as a Visiting Scholar, specializing in computer graphic design at Shiga University and the art of shape at Chiba University in Japan. From 2017 to 2021, I held the position of Guest Professor at Hubei University of Economics and Hubei Polytechnic University in China, where I directed study projects focusing on new media and visual communication.

Professional Art Career:
As a professional artist based in the United States, I have been fortunate to showcase my work in a wide range of international and domestic art shows in group and solo exhibitions.
One of my most notable achievements was when the Ohio Arts Council selected a collection of four of my oil paintings titled “A Tulip,” which were featured at the Ohio Governor’s Office under John Kasich for two years (2011-2013). Additionally, I had the privilege of participating in a group exhibition at the Carnegie Gallery at the Columbus Main Library in 2009 and holding solo exhibitions at the Columbus Metropolitan Library in 2012, EuropArtFair Amsterdam 2024 and Artexpo New York in 2024.
Notably, my “Charm Symbols” series has garnered significant acclaim within the art community.

Memberships and Awards:
I am a member of several prestigious organizations in the art world, such as the Ohio Arts Council, Redwood Art Group, and the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society (NOAPS).
One of my standout pieces, “Glamour Gaze,” earned the Finalist Award at the Circle Foundation’s Arts competition in France, where I also had the honor of being invited for an interview.
Additionally, eleven of my original works have been selected to be featured in the 2024 World of Art (WOA) Contemporary Art Magazine, with a dedicated four-page spread from pages 130 to 133. Furthermore, I have been privileged with an invitation to participate in an interview for inclusion in the 2024 edition of Marquis Who’s Who.
Teaching and Mentorship:
In 2011, I established the Art2D3D Studio with the vision of fostering budding artists. Through innovative teaching methodologies, I mentored a group of talented young artists who have gone on to remarkable success in national and international art competitions.
The achievements of these students speak volumes about their exceptional creativity and artistic abilities, affirming the impact of the educational approach and philosophy embraced by the studio. Subsequently, several students gained admission to prestigious art schools and universities in the United States, further highlighting the effectiveness of the tailored guidance provided at Art2D3D Studio.
Selected Students Award-Winning Works:
■ One of my students won First Place and Best of Show in the 2010-2011 National Federal Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest. The student’s winning work was not only printed as stamps by the USPS and issued to the public in North America but also permanently collected by the United States Postal Museum.
■ Several of my students won First, Second, and Third Place in the Ohio Federal Junior Duck Stamp Art Contest in 2009-2024 and Best of Show awards in 2010, 2017, 2022, 2024.
■ One of my students won Second Place in digital art in the 2009 NASA Life and Work on the Moon Art & Design International Contest. The student’s winning work was also published on NASA’s website.
■ Numerous students have received Gold/Silver Key and Honorable Mention awards in the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
■ Several of my students won First, Second, and Third Place in the Ohio State Fair Youth Arts Exhibition in 2013 and 2014.
