ROIE ENGEL

Roie Engel on Art Market Magazine” I’m Roie Engel, born and raised in Israel. The past several years, and the years to come, have a great deal of effect on my perceptions and the prism I see the world through.
I’m married, live in a community town and have three wonderful kids. During the past 11 years I work in software companies, and in my free time I seek to develop skills and enjoyment in different fields.
During the last two and a half years I’ve been interested in photography as a way to express my artistic ideas and my creative thinking. From the moment I remember myself I was always into art and practicing it in painting and drawing. I always loved photography but never, up until now, took some serious steps towards fulfilling my dreams and wishes.

I see myself as a self-taught and self-educated person who loves to learn and willing to work hard for achieving significant progress in almost everything I do, especially when it comes to things I love… things that make me flourish such as photography. The idea of starting from scratch and build up my skills was so mesmerizing to me that I had no second thoughts about it when it hit me. Photography to me is a liberator when it comes to art and capturing life as they are. Photography is the kind of art for me that keeps me sharp and helps read and understand the world around me.
I try to see in every location and every set of scenes an opportunity, and therefore believe it can be a fertile ground for producing beautiful images, images that people can connect to and interact with.
When it comes to this I put a lot of effort in understanding the behavior of light and its effect on my subject no matter if they are life forms, landscapes and still-life. I have learned a lot just by looking at things around me and how they react to different kind of lights whether it’s daytime or night. Throughout my experience of photography, I’ve been learning so much about the technical side of it, and about the best way that my images can and will serve my artistic concepts and styles. When I’m holding that camera I feel alive, I feel challenged and I feel relief.

Most of my work focuses on shooting landscapes and nature, urban and street, macro and portraits. I each and one of these subjects I find myself at my best regarding my concentration, technical awareness, creativity and artistic thinking. Aesthetics is a key word in the dictionary of “do the things you love and appreciate in your art”. I pay a lot of attention to it and feel its importance in my work.

Throughout time I have developed a unique style that really serve my ideas, and it’s based on playing around with minimalism and very detailed images, focus and non-focus and controlling the atmosphere of my work. Eventually, style or no style, rules and no rules, I enjoy my time and so happy when I’m doing photography…. Can’t stop loving it! ”
