MARITA MILKIS
Israeli contemporary artist Marita Milkis, about whom he wrote already in the “New Continent”, is not that she changed her manner, but developed it to perfection in a new quality. If earlier, she was attracted to the abstract style of color installations, now she makes pictures in the genre of prints. In this genre, she also writes story compositions of the parable genus, where there is no personalization indicated above – dance, human gesture, figure in space, movement – and all on a successive color, almost multi-layered in terms of color background.
Personally, I did not immediately accept the new style of Marita Milkis. Only when the thought and the author’s message became more precise, when familiar faces of foreign pop stars appeared in her pictures, I once again wanted to write about her.
Because she develops the style once found and mastered by her at a rapid pace, and therefore, above all, the virtues of her previous work-the perception of color, fantasy, some female rationalism, like many other things in the same spirit-have found a worthy continuation.
It is impossible to ignore. That is why it seemed right to me to once again pay attention to the creativity of a confident artist, the self-sufficient artist from the historical homeland of Marita Milkis.
Just because of the response to her work, the previous one became a starting point for her in a new manifestation of her own creative principle, a calm and clear expression of her talent, skill, and taste.
This cannot help but be noted and supported, since her current series of figurative and personalized works are also interesting as a memory of those who were and remain idols in music. Not only contemporaries, but other generations of listeners and lovers of good songs, beautiful melodies, original performance manner.
Her prints are perfect. Both as once-only works and as part of a series, where each picture is attractively combined with fantasy and art and belongs to a series that already counts more than a dozen things in a collected, filigree and effective manner.
Undoubtedly, in the choice of the characters of prints, in the way they are shown – in the foreground, middle or far background, and in what foreshortening – there is also a personal attitude towards them, the personal view of Marita Milkis.
Given that in this case she managed to convey the feeling of those for whom the musicians listed above, those whom the Israeli artist portrayed, have become a rarity and a memorable event for decades, up to our days.
