NATHAN NEVEN | Wild Life Invited
“All the images and films during the confinement of these cities around the world, of these empty streets which were playing over and over in the media, fascinated me, and I said to myself that animals could very well replace humans. Influence of a historical moment! “ -Nathan NEVEN
Nathan Neven, a talented artist born in 1979, currently resides in Ireland. Despite starting his career as a graphic designer for magazines and advertising, his true passion has always been painting. After studying art and communication, he followed his dream and moved to Paris to hone his artistic skills. His artwork reflects his European experiences and his love for travel.
For the past decade, Nathan Neven has devoted himself to being a full-time artist, showcasing his personal exhibitions across the globe, from Japan to Ireland and from the United Kingdom to South Africa.
His art beautifully captures urban landscapes, vibrant interior scenes, and striking juxtapositions of daily life. The absence of human figures in his interior pieces allows the viewers to appreciate the grandeur and power of the spaces. For instance, his portrayal of a red armchair invites viewers to imagine themselves seated there, engaging with the surroundings and relishing the moment.
Nathan Neven’s fascination with tranquil interiors juxtaposed against the urban chaos is evident in his expressive use of color, light dynamics, intricate textures, and unique shapes. His technique is refined, and his art reflects his genuine emotions with vibrant and harmonious compositions.
One of his most intriguing series, “Wild Life Invited,” was born as a response to the isolation caused by the pandemic. Inspired by the repeated imagery of empty city streets during confinement, the artist envisioned how animals could replace humans, influenced by the historical moment.
Neven cleverly weaves mythological references and allusions to art history into his paintings. Like Karen Knorr and Gloria Friedman, he emphasizes architecture as both the backdrop and subject of his fictional narratives, often introducing animals as incongruous yet compelling elements. His art pays homage to classical and modern influences while expressing spontaneity, sincerity, and emotion.
Nathan Neven’s captivating works are showcased in various galleries across France (in cities like Paris, Honfleur, and Touquet Paris Plage), the USA (particularly in California), the UK (specifically London), Ireland (including Kinsale and Dublin), and South Africa (with a presence in Johannesburg).
